From a 1,000 year old vampire in “The Vampire Diaries” to a man fighting to preserve his humanity over years of terrible imprisonment in “Warhouse”, Joseph Morgan is certainly an actor not afraid to take on the tough roles.
“Warhouse”, co-written and directed by Luke Massey, and co-written and produced by Benjamin Read, it is a gripping, brutal psychological film with a supernatural edge that charts one man’s fight to preserve his humanity and sanity over years of terrible imprisonment. Royal Marine A.J. Budd (Joseph Morgan) awakes in a mysterious house and is forced to fight for his life every day against grotesque inhuman opponents. Trapped alone in an unchanging prison of unbreakable routines, he must kill every day or die himself.
On the eve of the film’s premiere at Cannes Market, we spoke with Joseph about inspiration, TV versus film, the return of Klaus, and joys of Twitter.
How did you become involved with this film?
I worked with Luke on a short film I co-directed with Matt Ryan, he knew Luke from his days in the RSC and so we called him up to ask if he wanted to DP our short. I had an instant creative connection with Luke so when he asked me if I’d be interested on working on a feature with him I jumped at the chance.

You may not want to read any of this article if you have not viewed the Season 3 Finale or if you don’t want to know what may happen in Season 4!
SPOILER ALERT! If you haven’t seen The Vampire Diaries‘ season 3 finale, stop reading now. Exec producer Julie Plec takes us inside the hour’s twists and turns, and teases where we’re headed when the show returns this fall.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How long have you known Elena would end season 3 in transition to become a vampire?
JULIE PLEC: The ending had been in the works for about two years. In the first series of books, that’s what happens to her. When Kevin [Williamson] and I first came on the show, we said, “Well, it can’t happen to her the way it happens in the books,” which is on, like, page 200 of the first book. [Laughs] That felt obviously too soon, and rushed, and we didn’t want to make a show about a teenage girl who instantly becomes a vampire. But we always knew that her journey would take her there eventually, and we just kept riding the wave of when it felt right. You’ve got a girl who just sorta lost her last adult living family member when Aunt Jenna died last year, so when we started this season, what we really wanted to do was begin this relationship with Alaric as her guardian and mentor, and then tear that away from her at the end leaving her and her brother with nobody. It felt like now was the time — when you’re left with no grownup, no adult supervision, no parent, no guardian — for Elena to experience the next evolution of her journey. All the stuff that we did with having her get stronger over the course of the year, training and getting in touch with her physical self, and all the grief and all the emotion that she went through, all the compassion that she has for everybody, it will all play into next year and what kind of person and vampire she will actually be — if she should choose to see the transition through.

“I hope he’s going to stay around,” Morgan said of Klaus. “The truth is none of us know, not Nina (Dobrev, who plays Elena), not Paul (Wesley, who plays Stefan), not Ian (Somerhalder, who plays Damon). We all get our contracts renewed during the break.
“I’m not ready to be done with the character yet. I hope he’s sticking around for a little while, but that’s really up to (the producers).”
It was in the last four episodes of the second season that Morgan arrived as Klaus. The Klaus character had been built up as the epitome of evil, so those were pretty big fangs to fill.
“I was doing four episodes, and I knew if I screwed them up I was not coming back, so there was that pressure,” admitted Morgan, a native of England who turns 31 next week. “But I knew if everything went well, I was coming back for this season, at least. I wasn’t expecting it, but I was hoping.”

#17 Joseph Morgan, The Vampire Diaries
In theory, we shouldn’t like anyone who joins The Vampire Diaries with a plan to kill the Salvatore Brothers. But somehow when Morgan’s Klaus was introduced as the biggest, baddest vampire ever, we were captivated. Morgan’s charm shines through both his character’s deliciously evil plots and deep-seated need for a good hug. We hope these warring vamps can make peace, because we don’t want to see Morgan leave Mystic Falls.
